Authorities have issued drug charges against two Florida residents. The drug possession and trafficking charges came after what was said to be a long investigation but which appears to have netted scant evidence. Both arrestees were held in a Florida jail awaiting bond. The man, reports say, posted bond and was released.

Officials say that the pair, a 24-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, was involved allegedly with methamphetamines. Police claim they found 20 grams of the drug and charged the woman with drug trafficking.

Charges for the man included possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia. Neither the amount nor the nature of the claimed drug was provided, nor was the purported drug paraphernalia described. The woman, who apparently had outstanding criminal warrants against her, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additional charges against her stemmed from previous and unrelated allegations of criminal conduct.

The drug cases may include several felony drug charges. These serious offenses will require that the accused parties focus on the accusations against them and to seek experienced legal counsel as their representatives. Authorities will be required to prove that the woman did indeed intend to sell the small amount of meth seized and that they were in possession of drug materials.

Representatives for the pair will surely address the circumstances surrounding the arrests. The procedure used in the investigations that resulted in the drug arrests will be examined with a view towards protecting all legal rights of the accused individuals. Penalties for drug crimes in Florida carry the potential for jail, substantial fines and probation. Each accused person will need to present a meaningful defense as they fight to protect their reputation.
