A High Springs, Florida, man was arrested Friday for allegedly hitting his son-in-law while responding to a confrontation between the man's daughter and his son-in-law. He now faces domestic violence charges.
According to a news report, a woman and her husband were having an argument about Facebook conversations they each were having with old girlfriends and boyfriends. The wife felt that she needed to call her father, and after she called him, he came right over to the house.
At some point after arriving, her father reportedly punched his daughter's husband in the face and choked him.
The police were called and they arrested the father, and they also found out the son-in-law was wanted on racketeering and other charges and arrested him as well.
It was unclear from the news report whether the father was interfering in a physical fight between the husband and wife when he punched the husband, or if the wife and husband had only been fighting verbally.
Either way, this man may have thought he was protecting his daughter. But, even if he feels that what he did was necessary in order to save his daughter, or if he feels it was only a minor incident, the state of Florida takes all domestic violence charges very seriously.
It is usually very unlikely that the state will drop domestic violence charges. Often, these cases become a matter of he said-she said , which means that it is often in the best interest of the accused to have a strong criminal defense who can perform a thorough review of the evidence.
